Growing up in a poor family from Batangas, Apolinario Mabini worked hard to finish hos studies and become a respectable lawyer. At the peak of his career as a lawyer, he was struck with illness. At the time of the Philippine Revolution against Spain, when it seemed that all hope was lost and abandoned, he took up its moral leadership.

Filipinos know Apolinario Mabini as the "The Great Paralytic" but rarely do they ask why he was great. What were his greatest contributions to the country? How did he guide a nation in its most troubled times? What can his ideals teach us about building a government that truly serves the people?
